In this paper we uncover reasons why researchers hesitate to publish according to the Open Access principle despite having strong sympathy for the idea by employing a newer theory from the field of technology acceptance (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology | Venkatesh et al. 2003).

This Management Report summarizes the main descriptive results of a study on researchers' acceptance and use of Open Access publishing. The study was conducted in 2006 by the Ludwig-Maximilans-University Munich, Germany, in cooperation with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
